Katara Cultural Village, pigeon condos

We spent several hours looking around the Katara Cultural Village just outside the city. It’s hard to describe this place, but it was like a free-of-charge entertainment center that included new Qatari-style buildings, a large amphitheater, an arts center, several mosques, a beach, restaurants and a shopping area. I found the architecture in particular fascinating, and also liked a Qatari photo exhibit we visited as well. There will be a number of pictures from here! More about Katara: http://www.katara.net/english/about-katara/about-us/

I read in a piece I found online that these are "pigeon condominiums."

Certainly not the type of thing I have ever heard of, but after seeing this stellar image of this eclectic looking building, I would like to see more. ~BV~

I love these! I saw similar structures in Iran: the farmers would feed the pigeons inside these buildings and then collect and use their droppings for menuir on the land.

The pigeon condo is rather similar to the ones found in many Egyptian towns and villages.
