A chapel was installed in this old gate to guard the city against invaders and to protect departing travelers. The icon in the chapel is called "The Madonna of Mercy" (1620), reputed to have miraculous powers. You can see the icon from the street, and some people stand outside during services, but we wanted to go in. Humorous story to follow ;-).
