Hungary's Great Basilica at Esztergom

With its 72-meter-high central dome and colossal dimensions (117 meters long and 47 meters wide), the basilica at Esztergom (officially the Primatial Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumed Into Heaven and St. Adalbert) is Hungary's largest church and the 18th biggest church in the world. It was consecrated in 1856 after being rebuilt on the site of a 12th century church destroyed by the Ottomans. Lonely Planet described the interior as "bleak," but personally I think it's anything but that. It was pretty difficult to photograph and even harder to process the images, but I hope you get at least an idea of the magnificence of this monumental structure.
