Preparing for Chaos

The primary responsibility of an Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) team
at any airport is to battle the extremely hot and difficult fires associated
with aviation fuels. To make sure they maintain a high state of readiness all
ARFF teams have to train how to use their equipment and function with heavy fire
suits and portable breathing gear. Here crews practise at an off-site burn pit.

Every exercise, conducted tri-annually, generates many panic calls from the public.
