When photographing from a large tripod, with a medium format camera, I tend to get some pretty idiotic questions from people passing by. "Do you work for National Geographic?" "Are you videotaping right now?" "Are you photographing the moon with that thing?" "Is there going to be a post card coming out with that picture?" "Ohhh... are you trying to photograph that without people in the scene?" And so on. This is one of many reasons I prefer to photograph where other people don't go. But this occasion was different, at least for a moment. While in the middle of this thick bamboo forest in the southern section of Haleakala National Park on Maui, a guy asked me whether I had managed to photograph the pandas yet. The comment was good for a chuckle and inspired a title for the resulting image.
