Three images of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak that visited our yard for several days.
Top image: Partially perched on the end of a small stick that I had erected for the hummingbirds, this "want-to-be" Hummingbird tries to hover like one and appears to be checking for nectar.
The hovering didn't work too well so it decided to jump right in to the Scarlet Runners and check out a flower petal from there.
It seems that the flower petal did not taste too good, so the Grosbeak decided to look under the leaves for something more to its liking, like spiders or grubs.
