Black Squirrels are very common for our area; in fact, it seems to me that they are perhaps the dominant Squirrel found here.

This is a truly beautiful photo! For sure,the black phase (melanistic phase) of the gray squirrel, which these are, is more dominant up here and almost absent further south. Many speculations as to why.

It's interesting that you have black gray squirrels, Hank. I have seen them around the Washington Zoo and in parts of NYC but never here. They are very handsome!
