Finally, we got one, a female. A lifer for me. A few of us had been looking for a B-b Woodpecker for some years now. Two or three were reportedly seen recently not far away in an area of woods that had burned last year. Some fellow photographers and some birders had been checking them out two or three times and found one of the Woodpeckers each time. A few others, me included, had been traipsing through these woods for hours each of four to seven times and not once did we see one of them. Finally, today four of us went and we spotted one. It paid almost no attention to us and let us take as many shots as we wanted whilst it just kept pecking away, occasionally changing trees, starting low, then working its way to the top.
