Salmonier Park is a beautiful park for viewing wildlife or to just go for a stroll to enjoy some beautiful nature. It is very much family and small children friendly as the entire trail consists of raised boardwalks easily negotiated by strollers and wheel chairs. It is only about a 45 minute drive from St John's and the admission is free. We stopped there on our way to Cape St Mary's.
We arrived at Salmonier Park at 9:00 AM, only to find that the park doesn't open untill 10:00 AM. We decided to back-track about 2 kilometers to where we had passed a country variety store with attached dwelling, hoping to be able to buy a cup of coffee. When we got to the store, we were disappointed since they did not serve coffee. We then experienced another taste of Newfoundlander hospitality and friendliness. The lady behind the counter offered to make us each a cup of instant coffee. She disappeared into her dwelling for about five minutes and came back with two steaming cups of coffee, free of charge. She absolutely refused to accept any payment and wished us a great day.
