As previously mentioned in this series from our Newfoundland visit, we drove from Cape St Mary's Ecological Reserve straight to the boat docks at Witless Bay/Bay Bulls. This was only about an hour and a half drive. We immediately booked our cruise of the Witless Bay Reserve before checking in to Elaine's B&B. It turned out to be a good decision as the weather the next day was very wet and windy. We spent that rainy day back in St Johns (45 minutes away) checking out museums etc. We spent two nights at Elaines - great place and fantastic breakfasts.
The above photo was taken the morning of our departure. It was taken through the dining room window of Elaines (see inset). The Eagle came for a visit and perched for about 20 minutes on this rock located at the shoreline about 20 meters from the house. Elaine's B&B is right on Witless bay and one could often also see Menke Whales surfacing in the distance.
From Witless Bay, we traveled about three and a half hours to the Elliston/Bonivista area. At Elliston, Puffins came right on to the mainland and it was possible to get very close shots. There was also a Puffin colony and other sea birds at Cape Bonavista, both must see places for sea bird photography, right from the mainland. My next series of images will be from Elliston & Bonivista.
