20110108 111 SERIES - White-tailed Deer HP.jpg

Ottawa

Two images of Bucks in the snow.

Top Image. This is the 10 point Buck that was wounded about two months ago last Fall. He seems to be doing quite well now although there is still some evidence of puss oozing from the wound near his left shoulder. I suspect that there is some foreign object embedded that may be causing infection. Other than that, he looks healthy. He and the smaller six point Buck shown in the next image are the only two Bucks remaining with the herd of about 20 Does and Fawns that reside in this area of the reserve. The other larger Bucks have all disappeared back into the woods.

Six point Buck. This Buck is subordinate to the larger 10 pointer; however, he is second in command when it comes to chasing away the Does and Fawns when food is at hand..

Great capture Hank! We always have them around our house, so I know how hard it is to actually get a great pose like this with the right back ground at the same time. ~V~

How very, very lovely!!! These are the kind of shots of deer I've been hoping to get this Winter. But the deer here haven't been co-operating. Both of your images are beautiful. The falling snow adds so much. Both shots are just lovely.

Great pair, Hank. I hated the falling snow in Yellowstone last spring, but it looks much more attractive when the ground is snow covered. Probably much drier snow, as well.
