Two images. The top image is a nearly full-frame shot taken with my 500 mm lens. It is of the younger eight point Buck who, unlike the bigger Bucks, generally stayed at considerable distance near the edge of the woods. The second image is a crop of the top image.


Note: the S.P. in the right (left facing ) eye. The licking tongue in this case seemed to be more in anticipation of food hand-outs rather than due to his participation in the rut which had consumed the two bigger Bucks the previous week. Some food was presented to a couple of Fawns who came right up to us; however, the Buck did not venture to come close.
