The original rifle was signed "A. Ernst" in script on the barrel. Ernst rifles were known for their doghead patchboxes as well as other animals. The Man in The Moon is always a half moon inlay in silver and engraved with the features of the face. Ernst also was known for his nicely formed triggers. He was a "Golden Age" maker who did beautiful raised carvings. This rifle was made by Hal who once had the original rifle to copy. Barrel length is 42 inches, LOP is 13 1/2 inches, weight is 6 pounds, and caliber .45. This rifle is from the James Fady collection.
