Tessman (1913), reporting on the period 1904 to 1909, noted how use of Fang traditional weapons had declined and taken on more of a prestige function as a result of the abundant supply of guns during the 1860s and 1870s (his Chapter 17).
Tessmann (1913, pg 273, Abb 225, Fig 14) illustrates a bark panel in which a man is shown in profile carrying a rifle by the tip as in this engraved image.
