While exploring the buckthorn jungle, I was very excited to discover this red cedar on the northeast edge of the property. It's a native juniper tree whose blue berries are eaten by birds, particularly its namesake cedar waxwing. I was already planning to plant a few of these in the yard, but it was nice to find this bright spot amongst all of the invasives. I'm also happy to report that all of the berry-bearing buckthorn is now gone, and all that's remaining are the smaller saplings.
