Condon, Oregon - Center of the Universe..

The City of Condon is located on the high plateau of the Columbia River Region where Oregon State Highways 19 and 206 meet. Condon is located 38 miles south of Arlington and the Columbia River, 80 miles southeast of The Dalles, 150 east of Portland, 130 miles north of Bend or 100 miles southwest of Pendleton. Condon's Main Street is registered on the National Historical Site and contains an active business district.

Condon is well known for it's annual Fabulous Fourth of July celebration that includes a parade, soap box derby, breakfast and dinner in the park and much more. Condon also offers an Oregon High School Rodeo during the Gilliam County Fair which is the over the Labor Day weekend.

Condon is well known for supporting it's community with the Gilliam County Medical Center, Chamber of Commerce, Condon Volunteer Fire Department, Condon School District, Gilliam County Library, Gilliam County Historical Society Museum Complex, and Summit Springs Village Assisted Living Facility to name a few.

We encourage you to visit and taste a bit of Oregon with a relaxed atmosphere and quiet solitude.

Condon, small town America at its best, is the county seat of Gilliam County. Incorporated in 1893 and originally known as Summit Springs it provided a welcome respite for travelers journeying through the high desert of north central Oregon.

Condon is a City of all Seasons. Spring welcomes you with Daffodils and Goldfinches. Summer offers relaxed days, evening breezes and the sounds of outdoor summer fun. Fall yields the bounty of the earths harvest and the clear night sky exhibits stars to gaze or perhaps to wish upon. Winter is often accompanied with snow and a White Christmas complete with Santa.

Spent two years in Condon, 58-60..Great two years , so sad to see the AF Station closed and in sad shape..Good people, good town..

I WAS ASSIGNED TO THE AF RADAR STATION FOR TWO YEARS. WAS DISCHARGED IN NOV 1956. I AM AMAZED AS I LOOKED THROUGH THE PICTURES AS TO HOW THE LITTLE TOWN IN THE WHEAT FIELD HAS GROWN. WHEN WAS THE RADAR STATION DE-ACTIVATED? I STILL ENJOY MANY GOOD MEMORIES OF MY TIME IN YOUR CITY!

Love the pics-moving to Condon in a week and a half .Bought a real fixer home so will be busy all summer remodeling. My son who is 33 will be living with me and we are really excited about the new journey. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures!

It's a very cute, historic town that is "up and coming" with 3 historic buildings on Main St. going through restoration. Great location close to the John Day River, Painted Hills, etc. Portlanders are even discovering it as a w/e getaway, being only 2.5 hours away. The people are friendly and welcoming to outsiders, unlike some E. Oregon towns.

as a former resident of Condon (1959-1960) while stationed at the Air Force Station outside of town, our son was born there (1960)..Nice to see pictures of how it looks today.

Craig, the closest McDonalds is 80 miles distant from Condon. If you should stop by Condon try out The Twist & Shake Drive-In.
