SMC Takumar 55mm F1.8

I have had at least three of these lenses. Each one of them can produce excellent, sharp pictures. My latest one, is a little strange. The name ring says Rollei Planar 1.8/50mm, but from everything else that I can tell, especially the coating, it's an SMC 55mm f1.8. However's doctored, this is one very sharp lens. The first two picture of Megan in the hat was taken by it at F2.8.


This is one of my dozen or so standard lenses. Colour, contrast and sharpness rivals today's best primes. The bokeh is excellent, easily better than the cheap Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II.

Hi Mikael,

There are M42 to Nikon adapters but those that allows lenses to focus to infinity have glass elements between the adapter and the lens, thus reduces the quality of the lenses, especially in the larger apertures. There are also adapters that do not have glasses elements, but they only allow you to focus at close distance, like macros.

There are no straight converter that allows M42 lenses to be used on Nikon cameras that focus to infinity and without correction elements.

Hello!

I have a Takumar 1,8/55 lens and a Tokina tele-auto 2,8/135 that my father have used on a Pentax spotomatic II. I have bought a Nikon D40 and would like to use these lenses on my Nikon. Is it possible for me to do that i get an M42 adapter?

You are a true great photographer. Your pictures are absolutely first class under the technical and the artistic point of view. I like your sensibility. Megan is absolutely incredible: I see how she act in front of a lens during (I think) the arch of 4/5 years and she is alltime better than a professional model. I think she wil give to you a lot of satisfactions, she is sensible and very intelligent. You are a lucky father.

The Canon auto focus cameras can take lenses from many different mounts through the use of an adapter. Most common adapters are M42-EOS (Pentax, Pentacon, etc), Nikon-EOS (except those without aperture rings, like the G series). Also, Contax, Olympus, Rollei and others can be adapted to be used on the Canon.

Excellent pictures. Just curious, the Takumar lens is made by Pentax, as far as I know. How can you used it on a Canon camera?
