Member of the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, troops 7140 and 7856, Baltimore, Maryland:

Instituted in 1992 through a partnership with the National Institute of Justice,
Girl Scouts Beyond Bars provides girls an opportunity to visit their incarcerated mothers weekly
to monthly and take part in mother/daughter Girl Scout troop meetings.

I've never heard of this particular program, but I'm very moved by it! I find myself wanting to know more about the program, so I'll be "googling" soon after I finish this comment. The photo makes a bold statement. I'm saddened by the whole affair and find myself grappling with the fact that this young girl has to experience what it feels like to have a parent incarcerated. No child should have to feel such, think about such, nor worry about such. You not only captured a truly picturesque young girl, but you (through the photograph and title alone) caused concern at least in one viewer-- but I'm positive that many others feel the same as I do. You've raised my curiosity and brought out a level of humaneness that I haven't felt inside of myself for quite some time. V
