So the river is called "Salmon Falls" at least since the 1800's or so. Prior to that is was called the Newichawonnock, which is supposed to mean something to the effect of "a place where you can get fish". I like the older name since this river hasn't seen any Salmon since the dams were built in the 1700's for mill power.
I took the photo from "Quamphegan park" in South Berwick. This is where the tidal waters meet the fresh waters of the Salmon Falls. Basically, anything above the falls in the photo is fresh water, and below a mix. There are two more sets of falls (that I know of) between here and Somersworth, NH (a town & half North on the river). I think I will make that my goal to get some decent long exposures of those falls this spring.
