Resume Writing Tips

Choose the Best Character References!

You should always put a thought to whom you will use as your character references. If you are too busy polishing your application letter and resume, researching for the company, preparing for the upcoming interview, then for sure you can find a spare time to work on your references. Remember that your future employer requests them to help them evaluate you.

If you think that references are not going to matter, that your future employer will not going to conduct a background check – then you are a hundred percent wrong! Given that some employers will not conduct a background check – but most of them will contact one or two of your references. Your future employer wants to make sure if you are who you say you are. Having a good character reference will be the deciding factor if you fit for the job, also having a bad reference could jeopardize your chances in getting that job.

Common courtesy requires. Obtain permission before using a person's name for reference.

Make sure that the character references you listed will be available to attest to your experience, education, and character.

If possible, select your reference according to the job you are applying for. If you are applying for a position as an accounting clerk, for example, a reference from someone in that type of work would be more appropriate than your family doctor.
Let your reference know what kind of position you are applying for so that they will be guided in their replies.

When you ask someone to write a letter of recommendation for you, always include a stamped envelope to prospective employer.

Make sure that you have all the needed information about your references. These should include the following: Full name (check spelling) with appropriate title (such as Mr., Miss, Mrs., Professor, Dr.); Business title (such as President, Director, and Manager); Name of company or organization and complete address; and telephone number (with area code).

Give your references a copy of your current resumes entry level so he will be aware of your accomplishments and skills and he is knowledgeable of what jobs you are seeking. The best references should know who you really are, and what you can do.

Do not list the names of your references in your resume. Wait for your future employer to ask for your references, and that is the time you can hand in your list (of course, in a different sheet of paper that says, "References") Make sure to have your list of references with you during your interview so in case your future employer asks – you can hand it in.

As a sign of courtesy, always thank your references for his willingness to help you.
