While the exposed upper surface of the northern-most Dasse shows feldspar crystals to good effect it is the southern two that allow the scale of the igneous intrusion to be judged. It is believed that the igneous rock forming the Dases intrusion originated in the Lion’s Haunch Crater.

The rocky outcrop in the far distance is not part of the Dases but is part of the Lang Rig lava flow that came from Edinburgh’s Castle Rock volcano.
