Dasses intrusion

Not all of the flows of molten rock took place on the land surface. The Dasses are an example of an igneous intrusion, where magma under pressure was forced in between the layers of older sedimentary rocks. These flows cooled slowly, allowing the formation of visible feldspar crystals in the igneous rock. These intrusions are believed to be younger than the volcano itself and their proximity to Arthur’s Seat is a fortunate accident.
