HAYNES DESCRIPTION:

In 1957 B.M.C decided to use the body shell of what was intended to be the Morris Minor replacement and introduced a Wolseley 1500 and Riley 1.5 as four door saloons.
The Riley, introduced in November shared the B.M.C's B series, 4 cylinder engine with Wolseley but was fitted with twin SU carburettors instead of the Wolseley one.
A fairly high 3.73 to 1 rear axle ratio provided a lusty performance.
A top speed of 90 mph was attainable, while 80 in 3rd gear was possible.
The early cars were both rallied and raced in the late 50's and early 60's with a certain amount of success.
