A saw-whet owl wing is examined to help determine its age.
At the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory, a total of 479 Saw-Whet Owls have been banded so far (period of Sept 20-21 to Oct. 10-11, 2010). This is compared to last Fall during the same time period, where only 130 owls were banded. Wish I had saved the stats for Fall 2008 which saw a large movement of Saw-Whet Owls (seem to recall close to 1,500).
This could be a good winter for seeing saw-whet owls. Time will tell.
