Actually, I have seen both Great Blue and Green Herons do this. The long tongue usually comes flicking out as well. I just happened to be there to catch it with the camera.

I think he is upset hehehe - would be a good image to send to someone as a quiz: guess that this bird is ? I would never have been able to guess, that is for sure
