The Odyssey of getting from Honolulu to Molokai
After our landing on the interstate terminal in Honolulu, we followed the scarce hints
as to where to find the inter island commuter. We had to wait for approx. 2 hours for our connection. We found ourselves virtually all souls alone with one guard in one trist looking waiting room. Can this be really the right place?
We did not trusted assurances
of the guard that we will be later escorted to the aircraft. But in fact after a wait time which seemed like eternity we were indeed led
for approx 200 meters/yards with an escort along diverse ramps and gates to the commuter twin
DeHaviland aircraft. Very, very confusing and unpleasant.
We both compared this ordeal to the "French island hopping" on Tahiti. We though about the small, but nice airports, and Tahiti Nui Airlines with their magnificent ATR twin commuters. Here on Hawaii one must almost always fly first to Honolulu, and than wait for another flight to the destination. Tahiti Nui flies direct form any island to any island. They did it better, no doubt about it. Can we learn from it? I hope we will! |
