Kim Taylor Reece Gallery, Hau`ula, North Shore of Oahu

Kim Taylor Reece Gallery, 53-866 Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula (Oahu), HI 96717
The Gallery is located approximately in the middle between Laie and Kaaawa, close to the (closed) Sacred Falls State Park. The official web page of the gallery uses "Sacred Falls" in its address, but in reality the name of the town is Hau`ula! "Sacred Falls" sounds much easier to English speakers, nonetheless on a chart you must look for "Hau`ula."

Entrance is free. You have to leave your shoes outside, almost in Japanese style. Kim Taylor Reece is considered the most prominent photographer of Hawaiian Hula. In year 2004 he has been honored by State Senate for "outstanding achievements as Hawaii's foremost fine-art photographer." You have surely seen numerous of his sepia-colored images of hula kahiko. For me the most astonishing fact about him is, that he is color blind, what considering his genius in photography is a startling analogy to a progressing handicap of one Ludwig van Beethoven, who lost his hearing and yet kept composing masterpieces. Maybe this explains the prevailing sepia color of his images? For us, this gallery is an obvious must see place on Oahu! You can park in the Pokiwai Place to avoid crossing of the sometimes busy Kamehameha Highway.
