Wai`anae: Leeward side of Oahu, Kaneaki Heiau, Jan.2006
Tourists stay usually in Waikiki, Honolulu and on the windward side of the Island. The dry, leeward side of Oahu is separated from the centers of visitors by the heavy industrial and military complex in saddle of Oahu, and stayed widely rural or local. The spectrum of restaurants, businesses and homes mirrors clearly the much lower purchasing power of the residents. Maybe of them seem to like it that way. They have quiet beaches, and... the best sunsets on the Island. One of the attractions of rank for history buffs is the Kaneaki Heiau, build probably 1450-1650. It is difficult to reach. Requires passing through private grounds in the Makaha Valley. They really write down your name from your ID, and you will be asked to fill out a waiver of sorts, and all such strange stuff. We found not one single soul visiting this heiau, we were all alone. |
