Lawai, Kaua'i, 11.Sep.2003 Whoever assumes that plants are only green, has not seen these gardens... We saw all colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Magenta and Blue. The Botanic Gardens on Kauai's are located on two opposite sides of the Island. The Lawai Gardens are on the south shore, east of Koloa Landing. Lawai Valley was known for its beauty and favored by the Hawaiian royalty. Nowadays the premises are split into three separate gardens: self guided garden around the visitors center (Bill and Jane Lane Center), and the larger McBryde Garden and Allerton Garden. These images show the self guided garden only. Visits to McBryde and Allerton Gardens are by tram and visit to Allerton Garden is... under guidance only. I could not overcome my strong dislike toward any form of a "guided tour"... Not even for a garden which is listed by National Geographer as one of most unique of its kind! On the opposite North Shore of Kauai are the Limahui Gardens, which were closed during every of our visits. |
