Climbing Diamond Head (Le`ahi)

Diamond Head (Le`ahi), 4.Oct.2002
If there is something like the "most typical place to see on Oahu," than I suppose the number one is a visit to the center of the Le`ahi Crater (aka Diamond Head) and a climb to its top. Of course, we also did it... again. Image taken on late afternoon.

Nowadays the entry is not free anymore, but the benefit is that volunteers provide water, information and flashlight, which is very useful to pass a few dark passages in tunnels below former fortifications. Park rangers still close the entry tunnel to the crater at dusk. The crater still hosts a plethora of parked military vehicles. Probably National Guard.
