Polynesian Cultural Center
in Laie, Oahu.
"Horizons: Where the Sea Meets the Sky" was a large revue casting over 100 performers from several Polynesian and Melanesian nations. (At some time the show was replaced by a similar performance Ha, Breath of Life) The show was really very impressive, as is the later on performed "Ha". Dancers, singers, fire-walkers, all this is very well performed and very athletic. You should see it at least once! More information about the Polynesian Cultural Center can be found on their excellent web page http://polynesia.com/ Photography must be made strictly without a flash. Back than "before the digital era", the images were made on Fuji P1600 film using a Canon image stabilizing lens. Today ISO1600 is not much... The "no flash" photography policy was strictly enforced. Every visitor with a camera in hand was asked to switch off the flash. After every accidental flash in the public, stewards swung immediately red lights and showed large signs "No Flash"! At first I found this a bit exaggerated, but as we saw the performances with torches and fire-walking, it became obvious how essential good night vision was for these performers. |
