 ...still active and emitting poisonous gasses..... |
 ...you're advised to dive under a vehicle if it spits out any lava rocks |
 back in Granada, shopping for fruit is easy..... |
 there's lots for sale on the shady side of Calle Altravesada |
 ...but enough of sidewalk surfing..... |
 the ferry terminal at San Jorge |
 out in Lago Nicaragua, the hazy image of Isla De Ometepe |
 eventually one of the big passenger ferries arrives..... |
 ...and sails across to Ometepe..... |
 ...where Moyogalpa..at the base of Volcan Concepcion, could one day become another Pompeii |
 shops are open into the long hours of the evening..... |
 ...and some veteran vehicles are parked about the streets..... |
 it's very hot checking out Moyogalpa's main street..... |
 ...and cold drinks keep rolling in..... |
 a model of the island would benefit from some water..... |
 ...although H2O isn't a problem at the local laundromat |
 the 24 km road from Moyogalpa to Altagracia is now paved...with bricks |
 about half way is the lagoon named Charco Verde..... |
 ...where the Hotel Charco Verde has great little cabins |
 and the restaurant looks onto Lago Nicaragua |
 the trails through Charco Verde nature reserve are an easy walk |
 and the howler monkeys easy to see..... |
 ...although they keep to the trees, watching passers-by closely |
 beyond a sugar cane field looms Volcan Concepcion..... |
 at 1610m, Concepcion has it's own microclimate |

 ...there's an overview of the area and the west coast of Ometepe |

 ...there's no time to stop by the cabin..... |
 ...or even to grab a bite to eat..... |
 ...as Volcan Concepcion is presently showing it's power..... |

 ...an occurence the locals say happens 5 or 6 times each year |
 A short visit to Altagracia..... |
 ...and a few old stone figures in the churchyard |
 the rough road south of Altagracia being re-surfaced...with fresh soil |
 the bouncing Bluebird |
 further south at Finca El Porvenir..... |
 ...are petroglyphs from 800...1,000 years ago |
 but there's no more time to explore the island..... |
 ...so it's adios to Ometepe..... |
 ...back to the mainland at San Jorge..... |
 ...and on to Laguna de Apoyo..... |
 ...a large lake in an ancient caldera |
 several hotels, like here at Crater's Edge, line the shore..... |
 ...making it a great place to chill for a few days |
 despite the hotels you can walk freely along the lakeshore..... |
 still grabbing shots out the car window in Masaya..... |
 Nicaragua is a colourful country to visit..... |
 ...but eventually it's time to head for home. |
