brittlebush

Valley of Fire SP, Nevada

in January brittlebush seemed one of the dominant, thriving life-forms here....surprisingly, it is a member of the sunflower family...apparently yellow blossoms appear in March

Thriving in a harsh landscape. Is this a semi-desert - it looks to be on Google Earth - or merely a harshly rocky site? Though I live far from them now, I do so enjoy semi-desert landscapes. For a few years, many ago, I lived in the semi-desert, but it was sandy rather than rocky.

These will turn the desert yellow in a few months. Useful plants too, for incense, glue, medicinal purposes etc. Nice shot of these hardy plants, they show well against the orange. "V"

Before I commented I just had to check out what the flowers from this plant would look like so I googled it. Now besides seeing the pretty green against the red rocks I can also envision the beautiful yellow flowers that will appear next month. I think you need to go back and get some photos of the flowers for us too!

Nicely captured on the red soil. I'd never know they are related to the sunflower. Like how you included just a hint of sky for contrast. V

Very interesting; I wouldn't expect to see much vegetation here at all, let alone one that thrives. Well composed image with beautiful, rich color.
