fast

Valley of Fire SP, Nevada

you have to be fast to capture one of these little sprinters...that's because Roadrunners are themselves very fast, able to reach speeds of 17 mph (27 km/hr)...evidently they survive largely on insects, scorpions, lizards, snakes, and other birds, and are quick enough to snatch passing hummingbirds and dragonflies...they can fly, but only for short distances, preferring to scoot along the ground on their daily rounds...luckily this wily speedster stopped briefly for a look at a pack of surprised photographers...of three quick shots, two had motion blur, and only this one was in focus

What a shot! I love these birds and I'd say you were blessed to get this shot of a bird that often doesn't stop! V

Great shot, and nice job of separating this well camouflaged bird from its background. ~V~

Nice capture of this interloper. I found it a bit humorous that we didn't see a lot of wildlife on this trip, except for this one brief period that morning. Big Horn sheep, roadrunner, and if I recall correctly, a young European who caught your attention.

I can imagine that these roadrunners are very hard to capture. You did a great job as it already spotted you! V

Nice shot David. They are skittish and not easy to photograph. Very different looking from the depiction in Warner Brothers Cartoon. "V"
