We were watching some of the most unusual cloud formations at sunset while sitting on the beach in Belmar, New Jersey. This particular formation was so perfectly formed and looked like a snow covered mountain peak. We found out later that inland some severe twister kind of storms left many trees toppled and many areas without power.
Lenticular clouds are continually reformed over the same location by new air rising up and over a mountain, condensing and producing the clouds. These clouds can also form over flat terrain due to shear winds created by a front, according to EarthSky.
