These are some of my favorite pictures of the Newburyport MA area, including the lower Merrimack Valley and the New Hampshire Seacoast. Although only 40 miles north of Boston, the area retains its rural charm and nautical heritage, even as suburbia spreads into the region.

A good collection of photos, all and all. However, many were too small. This made viewing them less pleasant. But still, they are worth looking at, in my opinion. You have my vote.

I'm from Massachusetts and my family has been visiting Newburyport and Plum Island regularly ever since I was very young. My friends and I have spent a lot of time walking around Newburyport and going to the Plum Island beaches. I'm now away at college and looking through these photographs made me homesick for my beloved home state! You really captured the feeling of the place. Kudos!

Very beautiful and memorable photos, I grew up in West Newbury Massachusetts and now live just across the Merrimack River in Merrimac Massachusetts. I have lived i this area most of my life and can identify almost every photo shown. Excellent job and thanks for sharing. I will save this page as it brings back so many memories. Very Sincerely Michael Mullen, Merrimac, Ma. P.S. I live ery close to the Rock village bridge and as a kid we built a little for on the wooden turnstyle that opens and closes the bridge. The bridge is also the oldest original wood span bridge still on the Merrimack River, up until 1910 it was a covered bridge. I guess I'm kind of a local history buff......one side is in West Newbury and the other is in Rocks Village which is part of Haverhill, Ma.

I know you have probably heard this a thousands times but, truely your photography is amazing. In the world of photography I am but a simpleton. I know very little/close to nothing at all about white balance and proper shutter speeds. I do understand though what I like and that it takes a certain type of patience & talent to capture the images you have. They are wonderful. I have saved your page as a favorite and have spent much time over the last months looking over your different galleries. Envious of the beautiful sites you have witnessed firsthand and in admiration of your ability to capture it for others. Many times I have checked back to your site to view your photos to help put a smile on my face. I am from the North Shore area in MA so I decided to comment here but they all are amazing. What a great gift you have.

These pictures are indeed beautiful and intensify my longing for the surroundings they exhibit. But I do have one small question: have any of these photos been retouched to enhance their aesthetics? and if so, to what extent? How many of the places photographed here are as beautiful in real life as they are in these pictures? Some please respond.

Hello! I love your work Mr. Vetere. I always new Massachusetts is a great place to take photos in the Autumn and whenever! My ex-boyfriend is from there and I missed out on a opportunity to visit him there, go to Cape Cod, and possibly even live there. Sometimes I do regret it because it is really nice there. B ut I am fron MN and we get just as beatiful Autumns here. But you have the best photographs than any other I have scene online. I just took some pictures by my campus where I go to college and there were just gorgeous reds, oranges, and yellows in the trees.

Thanks for your comments. I find that small adjustments to contrast (through either levels or curves) in Photoshop greatly improve the quality of colors in the photo.

As a Native of Newburyport (3 generations) now living in California I was moved by your beautiful pictures of my old hometown. While I go "home" every summer it is in the winter that I always thought Newburyport the most picturesque. Your pictures make my point better than any words I use to describe it to my children. I went on Google to find some pictures of Newburyport for an artist in residence project I'm doing on "Sense of Place" w/4th graders at the Brown School. I was hoping to be able to find some images that the children could incorporate into their paintings. Your photos are magnificent! What a wonderful representation of this corner of New England...almost as good as taking a walk through Maudsley (w/out leaving the house!)

Your pictures are just amazing... awesome! I am a beginner and I am far from having this kind of result. I guess it is a lot of work. It would be nice if you can tell me what is the part of true and the part of image retouching by photoshop or other stuff (of course not including the talent you have for composing pictures). Thank you for making me envious of improving my technics.

As a former New Englander (born in Maine), I have to tell you how much I enjoyed your shots! Plum Island was my husband's family's favorite summer get-away, so have been to Newburyport many times and feel you've done a really good job of capturing the 'flavor' of the place!
