When you get to my great age, as a herpetologist, you may not have youth, but you have experience. Which can be a
double-edged sword. The down side is that I don't often see things I haven't seen before, but the upside is that when I do
I get excited. I had never seen one of these geckos before and joined a couple of herpetologists at a survey site where the
species was being studied. I have always considered myself rather skilled at finding geckos, and when I asked the chief
researcher how many he had found in a night and he said four, I was determined to beat his record. By the end of the evening
I had found fifteen. I was quite pleased, he seriously considered changing his survey methods.
