This picture says a lot. The reason male frog call (rather than females) is because they are demonstrating that they are smart and
strong and bg enough to take risks and survive, and I reckon blowing up a vocal sack surrounded by burrs demonstrates this
impressively. I half expected to hear a loud "pop" followed by a very quiet, pathetic bleating...
