Reptiles are not normally associated with social behaviour but many skinks presently assigned to the genus Egernia exhibit such
behaviour, such as living in colonies which provide protection for the juveniles. These colonies are vigorously defended against
outsiders. Egernia modesta live in burrows beneath logs and rocks in a variety of habitats, where they tend to be shy
(except to each other) and so are rarely seen.
