The family Ranidae is one of the most widespread frog groups in the world, and include the "edible" frogs of the Northern
hemisphere. In Australia the family is represented by a single species, Sylvirana daemeli. Wood Frogs, as they are known, can grow
to a body length of over 110 mm, although this individual, photographed beside the Giddy River in Arnhem Land, was only about
50mm in length. This species has several calls, including a remarkable trilling series of un-frog like whistles and pops.
