Carpet Python, Morelia spilota mcdowelli

Lamington National Park, Queensland, Australia

There are various forms of Carpet Python occurring across mainland Australia. All are constricting snakes which basically kill their
prey (usually small mammals and birds) through suffocation. They have a non-venomous bite but their long, sharp teeth can
cause unpleasant lacerations. Of course, if you leave them alone, they are placid and quite beautiful creatures whose pattern
blends in with the mottled light of the rainforest.
