Wombat Piggyback

Cradle Valley, Tasmania

This is rarely observed, but it does happen. A wombat joey gets a ride on mum's back. Young wombats tend to stick VERY close to
their mothers, which is a good thing. In the harsh conditions of Cradle Valley, where these wombats were photographed, wombats
may live about seven years, which means they may only breed successfully two or three times in their lives.
They're good parents for a reason.
