On the evening of 27 August 2016 (at 19:07 UTC), Jupiter and Venus had a close encounter as seen from France, appearing only 10 arcminutes apart.
The planetary pair would soon sink below the forested flank of the "Puy de Monchier", a small volcano 3.5 km away.
