What a surprise: cold air from Russia and humid air from the Mediterranean made a perfect mixture for snowfall in the night from Oct. 23rd to Oct. 24th, one whole month earlier than usual. Last time Vienna had such an early snowfall was in 1940.
Weather improved on the 25th, but it was still below and around freezing in the morning. We decided to go for a walk in the hills around our house to enjoy the unusual sight of trees still in full foliage, just starting to change into their fall colors, and standing in a winter landscape.
