Parker was thrown from the vehicle he was traveling in when the driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle in another lane in Mosul, Iraq. Parker was fatally injured. Parker was assigned to B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He died on August 12, 2003, 5 days short of his 19th birthday.
