Another view of Lenka's colossal head of Hatshepsut . Mid afternoon now in the third terrace, the light in my favour, the sun nearly overhead shining into the "pit" of the terrace. The facial shadows are particularly strong, look at the nose and lip structure. Do you see a smile there in amongst the strength of character. I do not recall a male Pharaoh permitting his sculptors to show him with a smile.
Well past the first blush of youth when they began to rough out this block, undoubtedly she was pleased. Who would not.
It is evident from the surviving parts of the original piece, that the skin was painted reddish-brown - the standard colour for men - to further support her position as king of Egypt.
