As his fellow In Mate is still cavorting in the North West quarter of OZ and is not even on the red-eye back from Perth, Robaire has decided to launch this new/old gallery, simply, of Sydney yachts. Robaire has few credentials for doing this but there may be something in his blood. One ancestor who sailed successfully in Ireland and here in Sydney during the 19th century is well reported as catching a mackarel fish, slicing it from front to back horizontally and Instructing that a yacht be constructed to this design. He went on to win many races in his Australian and to participate in all manner of activities maritime. Some genes did reach Robaires siblings, Maximus and Minimus. The former has built and sailed boats most of his life and the gallery will show an early pre WW2 build which included Robaire in a lowly assistant role. Minimus sailed a lot on Port Phillip Bay and of course , raced madly on the River Cam during his years at Cambridge. This is not claimed as a yachting experience as his oar had to be cut in half to be flown back to OZ. Images will be drawn from other galleriae, notably those of Brother Maritimus whose Phantastic yacht is often to be seen In and out of our Harbour. Our launch also includes Sydney to Hobart racing starts of which Wazza is an expert.
Recently we chased the Sydney Flying Squadron replica fleet of eighteen footers. This is now in Galleria in a sub gallery, Historical Skiffs located at the top of the Galleria. Click and enjoy.
Welcome to the unilateral launch of yachting in Sydney. Latest 9 July 2011
