Qantas 90
An other Mate of Waz’, who worked for Qantas in the past set him an invitation to go to the Qantas 90th birthday open day at Sydneys Kingsford Smith aerodrome.
This was super special as it was by invitation and Waz decided to adventure by walking to several trains and thence to the other side of Sydney on a rain swept and windy spring Saturday. Not a totally good start as all North Shore trains were cancelled due to extensive line maintenance.
After catching the bus he could have got at the bottom of the street, plus a working train or two, Waz found things to be on the improve. Qantas had provided a heap of shuttle busses to the Jet Base and a happy mob of kids and parents were heaved on board by an enthusiastic gang of BYB’s ( beautiful young blondes to you ) in Qantas tee shirts.
Once thru security, in the rain, and on the strip the word passed that John Travolta was due in at midday flying his own 707. What . How good was this, Grease and all that, and aircraft. Waz thought he was in heaven.
So... These images are much self explanatory, where needed there will be a tad of text. They cover the day and are a walking about record of some of Qantas history . Included a couple of Googles so our Internationale can get an idea where this all happened.
There is much more at Longreach in Queensland where Qantas was borne as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services and now has its Founders Museum. The Museum web page is a ripper and gentle viewer we suggest after a browse here you go to the bar frij , fill a glass with chilled lightly wooded chardonnay and go to :
