NGC 55

NGC 55 is an almost edge on spiral galaxy about 6 million light-years away. It is a member of the Sculptor Galaxy Group. It is approximately 50,000 light-years in diameter.

The seeing on the night was average (2-3 arcsecs). Processing included noise reduction (mostly on the chrominance data) and some wavelet sharpening.
There are a number of background galaxies visible in the full res version.

This is an LRGB image (180, 60, 60, 60 minutes).
Luminance subs were 15 mins (unbinned) and RGB subs were 10 mins (binned 2x2). Total exposure time was 6 hours. FOV is 37 x 28 arcmins.
It was taken with a Takahashi TOA-150 refractor @ F11.7 (FL=1760mm) on a Takahashi EM-400, SBIG STL 11000M camera and AO-L. hide exif
