What a horrible grubby bit of road this is. It particularly caught my eye because of all the chewing gum on the street. I sometimes chew gum but I wouldn't dream of dropping on the street - why do people do that? It amazes me how dirty our country has become. Anyway, tonight has been a happy one because I met up with Julie who I used to work with... I miss Julie's sense of humour in the office. When she left I made her ***leaving card*** by putting her head on Victoria Beckham's body. It wasn't done very well as I was new to photoshop...but as a fan of David Beckham's she liked it anyway!

I really like the composition and the differnet lines and textures,Gail. Funny thing you mentioned gum...I just stepped on some gum as I stepped out of my car today! AArrgghh. Hate that.

I heard a thing on the radio saying it costs 10p to get every bit of gum off the street. Apparently some local council somewhere have voted to get the likes of Wrigley to pay more tax to fund cleaning. Apparently even though they voted for the policy, they can't enforce it because local councils don't have that sort of power!

I hear in Singapore, there is no gum on the streets, or cigarette butts, or any other litter, for that matter. However, they also have a pretty stiff jail sentence if you're caught doing it! America's streets look just as nasty.

Great commentary Gail, and I don't believe its unique to Britain.
Maybe if they made chewing gum out of something that could fix potholes!!!

not just the city! this is a scourge the country over... is Britain unique? Nice angle

I guess you shouldn't park there then!

odd, why are the streets red? or is all that flatted gum? :) you might visit Japan, i heard from a friend that studied there that the streets are so incredibly clean... almost sterile like.

funny that you should mention the Beckhams... watched Bend It Like Beckham last week.

A little sweeping, some flowers... and you won't be able to recognize it!

you usually see gum evidence where things stops, traffic lights, bus stops on the seat you've just on to get home! etc, ahh I miss London :) Like the perspective on this, glad to see the A80 doing so well for you.

tsk, they'll have to close that road for a few weeks now to dig it up and re-lay it again complete with the colourful tarmac! ;-)

Yuk! Really captures that "grubby city" feel.
